What is Poetry?

when you make talk with words, words--
(freedom and that other word, responsibility,
you can't have one and not the other.)
for words are made of syllables
and syllables, child, are made of air--
and air is so thin-- air is the breath of god....

Desert Camping

Had a wonderful weekend camping with my boyfriend
in the Southern Utah desert. We return to the same spot as often as we can. I love it-- and the desert in general. The stark beauty, the stunning silence, the intermingling of one's essence with the vast expanse, the coyote's howl, the night sky.
(Oh, what a sky!)

On the Job

What I am wearing today.

(What I wish I was wearing.)

What I was wearing (silk dress)
before I melted it with my apparently too hot iron.
(cute shoes and stockings though, no?)

Fredrico and Fantasia

Meet Fredrico and Fantasia.  They cruise by every morning to graze on worms and such in my yard and say hello.

Welcome to My World

My blog is officially open to the public today. It will be interesting to see who shows up here, as I have formally invited no one. So, if you happen to stumble across my space, come on in, have a seat, a sip of tea (guaranteed hobbit-hallucinations), and a peek inside my world....

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy 11/11!

I love 11/11 - 11:11.   I have no rational explanation for the thrill I get when I spy these numbers on clocks, license plates addresses.  Some may say I am slightly obsessed.  All I know is there is just something about it....

Feeling Hopeful

I voted this morning before I went to work! Virtually no wait, which was surprising. I proudly wore my I VOTED sticker all day.....

Delightful Water Universe (Revolting Ideas on Revitalizing the American Dream)

Went to the Premiere of Trent's new movie, The Delightful Water Universe at the Rose Wagner theatre last night. Classic, quirky Trent.  It was interesting to see the familiar landmarks, as it was filmed in my backyard, Salt Lake City. I'm sharing very little of the plot details because, as with most of Trent's movies, I have to think about them for a little while.... They are so odd--delightfully so, and worth the pondering.  I have been to a few premieres but this one was by far the most entertaining. The sideshows made it all the more surreal.

A mariachi band played outside the theatre; yodelers with alp horns performed in the lobby; a barbershop quartet harmonized from the balcony. And then, just before the movie began, a parade of dancers, led by Bigfoot on one side and a samba dancer on the other, shimmied and rocked on to the stage.

Can You Blame the Sky?

Can you blame the sky when a mama leaves her babies behind
Can you blame the sky when a mama leaves her babies behind

Can you blame the sea, Oh can you blame the sea,
'Cause she's a flowin' in that water deep

Is it the dirt that you envy so
'Cause in it her strong roots still grow

No, no, no
No, no, no

I'll blame those birds flocking so
I'll blame those birds flocking so
Blame those birds flocking so
'Cause with them she's a flying
Oh, cause with them she's flying

All those mama's are flying
They're watching us from above
They're watching us from above
Dropping their feathers with a mother's love
