Love

Love is free, free is love
Love is living, living love...

I love this song.
And you. I love you, too.

raccoon moon...

also known as:

snow moon,
storm moon, budding moon,
bony moon, little famine moon,
trapper's moon, moon of ice.
In my tribe it is known as:

Pilgrimage

Hiked through the hills of Antelope Island over the weekend, amidst deer,
antelope, buffalo, coyotes, bald eagles, hawks, falcons, sage grouse...

an ephemeral yielding of the modern world
to the wild stillness of the landscape.

Mamas keep your children close...these
creatures are on the prowl!

The Blessed Pomegranate

Uncle Theo's Orchard

Memories of childhood visits to my uncle's house
in San Diego, and tasting my first pomegranate
from his small orchard. An introduction to
a whole new world of delicious!

Luminous Little

Nameless Gnome

A garden on an island off the North Carolina coast, commemorating
the first English settlement in the new world.

The settlement was established by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1585.
It disappeared a few years later, no one knows why.

Wolf Moon

"Don't be fooled, I was raised by wolves.
Now the moon hangs in full,
so you know I won't play by the rules."

-Falling in Reverse,"Raised by Wolves"

First full moon of 2012!
Also known as the Snow Moon,
perfectly timed with an actual snowstorm-
the first we have received this winter,
or so it seems...
I'm not complaining,
and I may or may not
be howling...

Wayback Machine

My favorite Christmas present.
I've been revisiting some of my old albums,
and came across this song I used to love and had completely
forgotten about....

this too...

to be continued...

Pretty Boy

escaped from his cage, and has been wandering about the neighborhood
for a couple of months now. Nightly, he perches on my roof....
My charms?
Or the apples and kale?
I may never (want to) know.

A DREAM OF TREES

There is a thing in me that dreamed of trees,

A quiet house, some green and modest acres
A little way from every troubling town,
A little way from factories, schools, laments.
I would have time, I thought, and time to spare,
With only streams and birds for company,
To build out of my life a few wild stanzas.
And then it came to me, that so was death,
A little way away from everywhere.

There is a thing in me still dreams of trees.
But let it go. Homesick for moderation,
Half the world's artists shrink or fall away.
If any find solution, let him tell it.
Meanwhile I bend my heart toward lamentation
Where, as the times implore our true involvement,
The blades of every crisis point the way.
I would it were not so, but so it is.
Who ever made music of a mild day?
