| Pah Tempe-"healing water from the rock" in the Paiute language One of my favorite spots on planet earth. 50 minerals and salts (including lithium) Its existence has been threatened by ongoing conflicts with the local water conservancy district for years. Desert Wanderings

This trading post was closed, but I spied some really great
Navajo rugs through the window and some wonderfully random books on a table outside.
Myth of Sisyphus, Uncle Tom's Cabin, My Antonia. Angle of Repose, 24 Hours Before Dawn, Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, Kids Say the Darndest Things, Life is Tremendous!

Ode to Oakridge
November's Rotting Apples
Everything’s looted, betrayed and traded,
black death’s wing’s overhead.
Everything’s eaten by hunger, unsated,
so why does a light shine ahead?
By day, a mysterious wood, near the town,
breathes out cherry, a cherry perfume.
By night, on July’s sky, deep, and transparent,
new constellations are thrown.
And something miraculous will come
close to the darkness and ruin,
something no-one, no-one, has known,
though we’ve longed for it since we were children.
